The Weekly Chalkboard – September 5-9, 2016

I don’t know about you, but I’m in shock that I had to turn the calendar and suddenly it was September! That said, you may notice that it’s Tuesday instead of Monday this week. That was for Labor Day! Yes, even website editors sometimes take a day off now and then. 🙂

CrossFit NCS

Well, first we have some pictures I took at CrossFit NCS over the weekend. The place looks phenomenal! A nice, open plan with plenty of equipment, motivated coaches, and a welcoming environment to get you started. If you haven’t stopped by to check out what Ray & Stephanie have done, I’d encourage you to do so!

They had a few folks over to check out the new facility the other night and we were honored to be included. I think Ray, Stephanie, and the rest of the coaching staff are going to do a fantastic job and we wish them all the best!

The Hangry Helper

hangry-helper-logoNext up, we have a new food option in the Colorado Springs community courtesy of the new effort called The Hangry Helper. For now they have a Facebook page as they get ramped up, but a website is on the way. Their goal? “Delicious, healthy food for elite athletes and average Joes.” Can’t argue with that!

They are starting small and simple. Every Tuesday at Noon they’ll make a Facebook post letting folks know how many spots they have for new clients. PM Tamara through the page and she’ll get you set up with the week’s menu and ordering options. Clients have until Friday at noon to get your order in or your spot is up for grabs!

Meals are prepared on Sunday and ready for client pick-up Sunday night and all day Monday. But there are always a few extras, so stop by CrossFit Pandora’s Box to see what is left over for $10 a meal starting on Monday while supplies last. (It sounds like things are going very fast!)

They are starting off with a good variety of food choices, including (but not limited to) breakfast (Eggs & Sweet Potato Hash and Roasted Veggie Scramble) and lunch/dinner options (Zoodles with Chicken Marinara, BBQ Meatballs with Smashed Cauliflower & Sweet Potato, Sriracha Turkey Burger with Sandwich Thin and Bacon Brussels Sprouts…). Lots of different options to choose from – and you can find stats for them all up on MyFitnessPal, which is pretty awesome.

It sounds like the focus is on creating great food. Period. Stuff that not only tastes good but meets your needs if you’re an active athlete or just want to eat better. Simple ingredients prepared well to taste great. And it looks delicious. Be sure to check in with Tamara on their Facebook page to get in on the action!

In Other News…

Beyond that, it looks like the CrossFit Games folks will be airing their post-production coverage of the 2016 Games on ESPN2 starting on Sunday October 9. I was bummed I didn’t get to watch much this year, so I’ll have to set the DVR to record it when it comes on locally.
